Winter Must Haves

Nothing is worse than dry skin during the winter season and especially for my Adie babes. Seems like this time of year she always gets a few dry patches and we are always lathering her up from head to toe! I have been in love with the Mustela Double Action Cream and use it every night before bed and they also have a line for dry skin! It has been the best thing this winter for not only Adie but for me too!  I am a total summer girl and coming from Arizona where winters are sunny and warm (usually) getting used to the dry skin here in Utah is a total adjustment but I totally love it here!

Mustela and Dr. Mona Gohara, Assistant Clinical Professor, Yale University Department of Dermatology teamed up to find out her top five tips and product picks to help you get through the harsh, cold winter months with ease! Her five tips include:

Maximize your minutes. "Make sure you use a body lotion (preferably one that contains glycerine or vegetable oil) within three to five minutes after getting out of the shower," says Dr. Gohara. "The ambient heat will help seal in more moisture. (this has been a total game changer)

Don't forget the SPF! "It may not be beach weather, but you still need to wear sunscreen. Not only do UV rays reflect off snow as much as they do sand, but even indoor lighting can lead to melasma, a skin condition that causes patchy, uneven skin," she says. "Use a mineral-based sunscreen with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. I like Mustela Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ Mineral Sunscreen Lotion."

Turn it inside out. "What you put IN your body is just as important as what you put ON it," says Dr. Gohara. "Continue to eat some of your favorite summer foods, like salmon and avocado, which contain healthy fats that can help add moisture."

Be gentle. "Avoid using anything abrasive on your skin in the shower, like a loofah. (so got rid of mine) Instead, use a soft cloth with a soap-free foaming cleaner, such as Mustela Stelatopia Cream Cleanser, which gently cleanses without drying," says Dr. Gohara. "This also applies to your clothes. During the winter, try to wear cotton instead of wool, which is rough and can irritate the skin."

Pack portable protection. "It's crucial that you protect your skin from the elements, especially during the winter." She says. "As soon as your skin is exposed, you risk redness created by windburn or eczema. Look for products that contain vegetable oils, which can replace the skin barrier. I love Mustela's Hydra-Stick with Cold Cream with Nutri-protective because it's non-irritating and totally portable."

These tips have been the best thing for our skin this winter and even more so Adie! I always hate when my little babes is uncomfortable and dry skin doesn't have to be one of them anymore. This girl is a total pro at lotion, chapstick and the occasional lipstick moment! The other day we sent her to bed with chapstick and not the usual stick size, totally looked like a glue stick and in the morning it was everywhere besides her lips! Cheers to saying goodbye to the winter dry skin blues!

Thank you Mustela for sponsoring this post.
